Cool off on a hot summer day at Sandcastle Waterpark

Did you know Pittsburgh has a waterpark? It's in the historical town of Homestead and it's a great way to cool off on a hot day. The most frequently heard expression of first-time visitors to Sandcastle is: “Wow! I don't believe I'm still in the city.” Usually, they've just arrived on the boardwalk and are looking toward the Monongahela River. The scene is one of unusual beauty and tranquility – a resort type setting along a calm waterway, with a green wooded hillside providing the backdrop. Opening in July 1989, Sandcastle had...

10 Reasons why Primanti Bros is my favorite sandwich shop

Primanti Bros. is my favorite Pittsburgh sandwich shop. Primanti Bros. has been in business since 1933. I came up with 10 reasons why I love Primanti Bros. Encouraged by sales and positive feedback, Joe expanded to a small storefront where he was joined by his brothers Dick and Stanley and their nephew John DePriter. And that's how the very first Primanti Bros. Pittsburgh...

USS LST 325 Naval Ship Tour

USS LST 325 Naval Ship Tour

The USS LST Memorial Ship was in Pittsburgh recently. I recently had the opportunity to tour this ship with my family. My nephew is 11 and had a great time exploring and learning about the history of this ship and WWII. What I found amazing was that some of the tour guide crew are veterans that actually served on that ship. We got to hear stories about their experiences while serving our country. The tour takes around an hour. There is a set route to tour route. I went in the summertime and it was very hot. We drank a lot of water that day. I...
