As a parent we always want the best for our children, this includes the best education. The idea of how to pay for college for our children is a very scary challenge for some parents. It doesn’t have to be that way, here are some ways to save for college.
Scholarships are a great way to pay to pay for your child’s college education. You can apply for scholarships from sources such as religion, academics, sports and more. To find different ways to find scholarships to apply for, check my post I did a few months ago on them. Another source for scholarships is Capital Alliance. Scholarships are not the only way to save for college.
Here are some other creative ways to save for college
Save your change
We all have spare change. I personally hate carrying around change in my wallet, especially pennies. They make my wallet and purse heavier than it already is. Plus, it’s a hassle to count it out at the store to pay when you and the people behind you are in a hurry to get on with their day. You can save your change and deposit it into a savings account for your children.
Cook at home
Eating out is one of my favorite things to do! It can get expensive fast though. Instead of eating out, you can save money by cooking at home. The money you would've spent on fast food or even your coffee at your favorite coffee shop, can be put away for college. Trust me I know how tempting it is to eat out all the time and I love my Starbucks. I’m not saying to never treat yourself, just don’t make it a habit.
Use coupons on groceries
We all know that coupons come in the Sunday paper or in some areas, like mine, they come in the mail too. At the bottom of your receipt it will tell you how much you saved using coupons and your store rewards card. You can then take that money from your household budget and put it into the savings account for college. It’s a great way to save for college, while purchasing items you’d have bought anyway.
This idea is like using coupons on groceries. Buying items online is a common practice anymore. Did you know you can search for coupon codes? When you find one and use one, take that money and put it into the college fund.
With some creative thinking you can start a nice little nest egg for college for the kids. It will take some getting used to, but after you have a system in place it will be a natural thing to do. You can do this after the kids are out of school too for big trips/purchases.
I hope these tips helped you get creative ideas on how to save for college. What is your favorite tip? Don't forget to check out the Capital Alliance online.
