Does your little one like dinosaurs? Be sure to take them to the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium

This summer Dinosaurs at the Pittsburgh Zoo will offer an add-on experience for dinosaur enthusiasts of all ages the opportunity to come face-to-face with 18 fascinating reptilian giants of the past. A jaw-dropping tyrannosaurus-rex roars and stomps with life-like intensity just feet away from passing visitors, showing exactly why this giant earned a name that means “tyrant lizard king”. Nearby, the more docile stegosaurus grazes on the plants that make up its diet. The lesser known, yet fierce dilophosaurus looms over visitors as its baby watches, spraying water that represents this dinosaur’s venomous toxin. The suchomimus, iguanodon, and a pair of Coelophysis linger nearby.

My nieces loved the Dinosaur exhibit:

My nieces and I went to the Zoo with their mom, who 13 and 5. We all enjoyed the dinosaurs, I think the youngest enjoyed them the most though. It was interesting to see exactly how big dinosaurs were when they were alive. The animatronics was so lifelike, I got a little freaked out myself! There was one that spits water out at you, it freaked my 5 yr old niece at first, and we all found it hysterical.

The girls loved doing the dinosaur dig. This is where dinosaur fossils are buried in sand and you have to use a small brush to uncover them. It was a lot of fun for them and they got to feel what the fossils felt like.

The Dinosaur exhibit is not covered by your general admission to the Zoo. The price is:

  • Adult: $6, Members $5
  • Child: $5, Members $4
  • Children under 24 months receive free admission

Hurry the exhibit is only staying until Labor Day 2017!

After the Dinosaur exhibit, we toured the rest of the zoo.

It's always fun to see the animals and see how they would live in the wild.

When we went the new baby elephant was not ready for guests. We were bummed, we wanted to see the new baby!

A great way to cool off on a hot summer day is to visit the Aquarium. This is where my oldest niece was the most excited. Her favorite animal is the stingray, and she was able to pet one. I tried to make jokes with the kids. My oldest niece is a teenager now and finds my jokes lame. The 5-year-old still thinks I'm hysterical. What were my jokes?

Joke 1: If these are penguins..where are their hockey sticks? (I mean we were are in Pittsburgh after all)

Joke 2: Look I found Dory! aka Blue Tang

Joke 3: Jellyfish! Where is SpongeBob?

The Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium is a great place to go for a family outing, and you can mix some learning in there as well.  Have you been to the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium? What is your favorite part of the zoo?
