Summertime is a great time to get outdoors and enjoy the fresh air, and time with family and friends. It's easy to get overheated quickly though. Water parks like Sandcastle Water Park is a great place to spend time with family and friends and to beat the heat.
Sandcastle Waterpark has something for everyone, not just the young crowd. There are two different attractions for the youngest of water fans. The Tad Pool with 2 slides and Wet Willie's Water Works. Both are a great way to splash around in the water for some learning play that is safe for the little ones.
The Mon Tsunami is a 20,000 square foot Wave Pool generating ocean-like waves, and can even send diamond waves crisscrossing the 300,000-gallon pool. Depths range from zero to six feet.
This was the first time my friend's boys were ever in a wave pool. They loved it and would have stayed in there all day long if we let them. The wave pool waves knock me over due to my mobility problems. I stand in the shallow area know just enough to get wet and can exit safely when the waves start up.
There are 7 different water slides to pick from. Some use rafts and some are body slides. I leave these up to the wild and crazy kids. There are a lot of steps that you must climb up to wait in line and then down the slides.
If you are not a thrill seeker there is still plenty to see/do at Sandcastle. There is a lazy river (not pictured) that you can enjoy, this is more my speed. There are 1 and 2 man rafts available to float around for a quarter of a mile under the slides. This is a great way to just relax, unwind and chat with your friends. Perhaps you can make some new ones with the people floating by beside you.
The BoardWalk is a great place to just walk around, see other guests and chat. You can also purchase snacks and drinks there as well. Swimming burns up a lot of calories and makes you hungry. It's also VERY important to stay hydrated when in the hot summer sun even if you are swimming, your body still needs water.
There are lockers available for rent as well. This is important to keep your personal belonging locked up and secure. Who wants to try and lug that stuff with them all day, keep it dry, and protected when on a slide or the pool? Use a locker and you can enjoy the day without the worry of your personal belongings.
For those of us that live in Pittsburgh, a trip to Sandcastle Water Park is a yearly tradition. It's right down the road from their sister park, Kennywood. Kennywood is an amusement park that has been around since 1898 and is now listed as a National Historic Landmark.
There is so much to see and do in Pittsburgh. I highly suggest you visit Sandcastle Water Park if you visit during the summer. Have you ever been to Sandcastle Water Park?
